Southern Initiatives with support from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has operationalised an initiative to promote rural entrepreneurship and agricultural practises. As a beginning we have been involved for more than a year in an outreach project which involves translation of NABARD project literature from English to local languages. These reports tell the farmer and rural entrepreneurs how to set up new projects (like cultivating medicinal plants, setting up organic fertiliser units, soil-testing labs etc) alongiwth a detailed financial feasibility report and avenues for getting support. A large number of such reports have been translated from English to Bengali to cater to the rural populations of the Indian state of West Bengal.
